How to Burn a Candle Safely & Safety Measures!

At Kilimanjaro Candles & More, we want to ensure that you enjoy your candle to the fullest while keeping safety in mind. Follow these steps to safely burn your candle and prolong its life.

1. First Burn: Set the Foundation

For the best results, the first two burns of your candle should last **at least 4 hours each. This ensures that the wax melts evenly across the surface, preventing tunneling and helping you get the most out of your candle.

If you’re using one of our candles poured in coffee cups or coffee mugs with a narrower bottom, you may notice that the candle’s sides take a bit longer to melt down. This is because we use a slightly smaller wick to ensure the candle doesn’t get too hot as it burns down. Don’t worry—this is intentional, and it helps the candle burn safely and evenly.

2. Trim the Wick Before Every Burn

Before relighting your candle, always trim the wick to about  ¼ inch. This reduces the risk of smoke and excessive heat, while also helping to create a cleaner, longer burn.

3. Burn in a Safe Environment

- Always burn your candle on a  heat-resistant surface.
- Keep the candle away from anything flammable, such as curtains, paper, or furniture.
- Make sure it’s in an area with good ventilation but away from drafts, fans, or air conditioning that can cause uneven burning or soot.

4. Keep Candles Out of Reach

- Keep your candles out of the reach of **children and pets**.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, especially in areas with kids or animals.

5. Extinguish Safely

- When it's time to put out the flame, use a candle snuffer or a dipper to avoid splashing hot wax.
- Never use water to extinguish a candle, as it can cause wax to splatter and break the glass container.

6. Monitor Burn Time

- Do not burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting or moving it.

7. Stay Clear of Drafts

- Avoid placing your candle near windows, fans, or vents, as drafts can cause uneven burning, smoking, or soot buildup.

8. Dispose of the Candle Responsibly

Once there’s about **½ inch of wax** remaining, it's time to stop using the candle. This helps prevent overheating the container and minimizes fire risks.

REMEMBER:

Your safety is our priority. Following these guidelines will ensure you have a relaxing, safe, and long-lasting candle experience.
